us on a hike in the farthest north temperate rain forest in
North America. Hike among lush green carpets of moss under a
dense forest of Spruce and Hemlock trees. Look for bright
orange fungus or lichens hundreds of years old. Our guides
are trained naturalists and always ready to share
information with you on the ecology of this unique
ecosystem.
Hiking/General:
Cordova offers a variety of hiking experiences for all
skill levels and interests. You can choose to hike on your
own or hike with one of our naturalist guides.
Experienced hikers can
take an invigorating hike to the top of a mountain. Not only
will you get a great workout, you'll be rewarded with
spectacular views of mountains, bays and fjords of Eastern
Prince William Sound.
There are also easy,
moderate or difficult hikes through a variety of ecosystems.
These include the coastal temperate rainforest, muskeg
meadows, or alpine tundra. Or hike into a remote lake to try
your luck at fishing.
Sheridan Glacier Hiking
and Rafting Adventure:
This is a river trip unlike any you've done before. This
uniquely Alaskan rafting trip includes hiking, rafting,
glaciers and icebergs! Start your adventure with a
naturalist led hike to the face of Sheridan Glacier. Learn
first hand how glaciers carve the landscape. Views of the
glacier are spectacular from the trail. The hike ends at the
Sheridan Lake, formed by the melting Sheridan Glacier.
You'll paddle among giant blue icebergs, carved in
mysterious shapes by the elements. And of course you'll
enjoy a few rapids. The class II & III rapids of the
Sheridan River are big enough to be exciting, but not scary.
Much of the river trip is a scenic float offering wildlife
viewing and scenic vistas. And we serve the prized Copper
River Salmon on all of our river trips.
Sheridan Glacier Hiking
and Rafting Adventure:
Take a trip with us as we float among icebergs, thrill
to class II & III rapids and float our way through the
scenic Copper River Delta. This is a great Alaskan
experience that the whole family can enjoy.
This trip includes a hike
led by our naturalist, paddling through icebergs in a
glacial lake, and just enough rapids to make it exciting,
not scary! A light snack is provided at the end of the river
trip. And we provide round trip transportation from Cordova
Rose Lodge at no extra charge!
